Werksviertel-Mitte

← Back to the list

Werksviertel-Mitte is an evolving area / neighborhood hosting a mix of urban culture, innovative business spaces, and entertainment:

Art, concert and nightlife venues (like Technikum and TonHalle), restaurants, bars… a lot going on.

I had dinner there once at the Thai street food restaurant Khanittha, where I made the mistake of drinking some green, authentic Thai softdrink that tasted horrible. To be fair though, even the waiter told me afterwards that he was surprised to see a German order it.

In the Werksviertel there’s a ferris wheel – the Umadum – from which you can see a grazing herd of sheep on one of the surrounding buildings (and have a great view of the city of course) 🐑 🎡  Personally never been on it though.

Tickets cost 14€ and going around once takes about 30 mins.

💡
Fun fact: At 78 meters total height it’s currently the highest ferris wheel in Germany. It even holds an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest portable Ferris wheel in the world. (Didn’t even know ferris wheels could be portable tbh)

The Werksviertel is home to WERK1, a co-working space and incubator for digital entrepreneurship, calling itself the “most startup-friendly place in Munich”.

🫤
Unless you plan on going to a specific event or take a ride on the ferris wheel, I wouldn’t recommend visiting the Werksviertel.
